Jean E. Chiar


Current Position
I am currently at NASA-Ames and am funded as Principal Investigator under NASA's Long Term Space Astrophysics Program.

Postdoctoral Research

From 1997-1998, I was a National Research Council postdoc with Dr. Yvonne Pendleton in the Space Sciences Division at NASA Ames Research Center in California.

PhD Research
I received my PhD in Physics in December 1996 at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, where I studied in the Astrophysics group. My PhD advisor was Dr. D.C.B. Whittet.

My thesis project consisted of a ground based program of spectroscopy of interstellar ice features in regions of star formation. A copy of my thesis can be obtained by emailing me chiar@misty.arc.nasa.gov or writing to me at the postal address below.

Observing Experience
I've collected most of my data in sunny Hawaii using the superb infrared spectrometer CGS4 on The United Kingdom Infrared Telescope (UKIRT).
