Jean E. Chiar
Current Position
I am currently at NASA-Ames and am funded as Principal Investigator under
NASA's Long Term Space Astrophysics Program.
Postdoctoral Research
From 1997-1998, I was a National
Research Council postdoc with Dr. Yvonne Pendleton in the Space
Sciences Division at NASA Ames Research
Center in California.
PhD Research
I received my PhD in Physics in December 1996 at Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, where I studied in the Astrophysics
group. My PhD advisor was Dr. D.C.B.
Whittet.
My thesis project consisted of a ground based program of spectroscopy
of interstellar ice features in regions of star formation. A copy of my

Observing Experience
I've collected most of my data in sunny Hawaii using the superb infrared
spectrometer CGS4 on The United Kingdom Infrared Telescope (UKIRT).
